Character Profile
Name: Rude
Series: Final Fantasy VII
Age: ~late 20s / early 30s
Gender: Male
Canon Point: After the events of "Dirge of Cerberus"
Background Link: Rude – Final Fantasy Wiki
Personality: Rude is a man of few words, looking strong and distant yet as human as anyone else. Of course, most people won't try and approach him, let alone speak with him- If there was only his stoic and serious demeanor it wouldn't be that bad. After all there are plenty of people like that and they are generally considered to be cool people. But Rude always wears his black suit, his sunglasses and act as a professional, serious and borderline strict from an external viewpoint. He gives off the impression that he is some kind of secret agent or a hitman working for the government. And that's not far from the truth. In a sense, you could say he is quite scary to someone who never saw him before.
And if people do not approach him, he won't approach them either unless he deems it to be absolutely necessary. As said before, he is a man of few words and being social isn't his greatest skill, he's only doing it as part of his job. His only friends are people he met during his work (for the most part co-workers). It does not help that he has been 'betrayed' in one of the rare relationships he developed with someone outside of the Turks. His lack of social skills gets even worse if he is with a partner, such as Reno. He'll let him do most of the talking and will speak as little as he possible.
But if one was to get past the appearance, approach Rude and socialize with him, they may not only get an excellent ally, but a friend whose loyalty knows no bound. Loyalty, devotion and fun- Even if it may seem strange, those are the three words best fit to define a lasting friendship with Rude. He will never betray a friend, not even if it is a direct order from his boss. He will stand by their side and will be devoted to help them through whatever means he has at his disposal. He will die for them if it is necessary, but fortunately enough he's never had to go so far. And indeed: a relationship with Rude can be quite fun. Even if he looks cold and distant, with a friend Rude will play games, drink booze (and most likely get awfully drunk after a while), discuss of whatever topic they have at hand (even if his replies are to be short) and even do the most silly things- He's a man as any other and he doesn't have particularly have high standards to have fun. As long as he is with a good, trusted and real friend, he will.
Loyalty, I believe, is one of Rude's quality that deserves to be expanded on with a few examples. Obviously there is loyalty to his friends- And the best example here would be his long-time partner and best friend Reno, with who he's been working for nearly ten years. They complement each other perfectly, on and off-duty, in battle and for recreational activities- And they rarely get separated for long. This can also be loyalty to an organization, such as the Shinra Company. For years he remained with the company no matter what happened- Yet this doesn't mean his loyalty was blind. He would probably have been ready to leave Shinra if things kept getting worse and worse. But he remained for two reasons: one of them being his fellow Turks and his loyalty to them is absolute. Would someone threaten one of his fellow Turks, you can be sure to make an enemy out of Rude. In a sense, the Turks are like his family. He won't sacrifice himself for his job, but for them he will.
The second reason was Rufus Shinra. He who helped the Turks when they needed it gained an incredible amount of respect in the Turk's hearts, and in Rude's as well. His taking over the company was without a doubt yet another element that led Rude to stay. And would it have been anyone else ruling the company after the Meteor Crisis, Rude may very well have left.
As it has been demonstrated, Rude is human. He may be basically a secret agent and an assassin, but this doesn't mean he does not have a set amount of values he believes in. Friendship and loyalty rank high in what he believes in. He has his own definition of what is good and evil, what is right and wrong and he knows Shinra has a lot of atone for. As a part of Shinra he willingly chose to bear some of the guilt. Atoning for Shinra's sins and by extension for his sins is yet another reason that keeps Rude working for the now reformed company.
He enjoys fighting- But he's not the kind to fight to death. If he fights and see the battle is turning bad for him, he'll flee the battle. Not in a cowardly way, no. Even in defeat Rude know how to stay classy, he'll pretend to have forgotten about a very important appointment and discreetly leave the battle. Likewise, work time is work time, free time and free time. He is serious in his work, calm, focused and efficient. But don't you dare disturb Rude during his vacations. Don’t even mention going back to work earlier than planned: even his booze will taste bad then. If it is absolutely necessary though, he will accept to break his vacations earlier than expected. Like a friend to rescue. Not sure company's orders would force him back to work, he would judge whether it is important enough or not. And if it is, did will go back to his free time as soon as possible.
Lastly, Rude rarely takes decisions- he is one to follow orders. Being a Turk his intellect is above average and he can very well decide and act on his own, but he is happy simply following orders. If he works with Reno or someone on a mission, he'll let them take decisions- If he trusts them, he won't doubt their judgment unless there is an obvious flaw in their idea. But as stated he may act of his own will if he deems it necessary or if there is no one else to decide. He is calm so his decisions may be wiser than those of Reno. Yet again he might just chose to let his fists talk (they're to him what duct tape is to MacGyver). If he sees children endangered or a crime so terrible even he cannot just let go, he'll take the decision to intervene even if it gets in the way of the job. He does not tolerate blind brutality, violence to children and the likes.
Abilities: Being a Turk, Rude possesses physical and mental abilities above that of your average human. He is a skilled fighter and knows how to use many weapons, notably the traditional weapons used by the Shinra militaries (swords, guns and rods). Nevertheless, he prefers to rely on his fists, special gloves and accessories enhancing his already enormous strength and resistance. Being quite intelligent, he is also skilled in tactics, it's to say how, when and who to attack during a battle, etc. He is more efficient when fighting with Reno, as they are perfectly coordinated and palliate for each other weaknesses.
As far as his magical abilities and immunities are concerned, they're entirely linked to his use of Materia, Weapons, Protective Bracelet, and Accessories. So they will be limited by what he'll receive in his Trunk.
Materia-wise, Rude will have the Ice, Fire and Lightning Materias. Those Materia will allow him to cast elementary spells on his opponents- Furthermore being linked with an All Materia; his lightning spell can hit multiple enemies at once. On the defensive side, he will have a Restore Materia (allowing him to heal himself or one of his allies), a Barrier Materia (allowing him to enhance his own physical and magical defenses or that of his allies) as well as a Cover Materia (allowing him to take a blow instead of his allies).
He is equipped with an Enemy Skill Materia as well, which allows him to learn and repeat some of the attacks cast by the enemies. All of those Materia will be incrusted in his gloves. Furthermore, being equipped with the Ziedrich bracelet, his resistance to all elements is increased.
Rude is also immune to most status ailment and to Gravity spells. While an explanation is never given in-game, some accessories possess similar effects. For the purpose of role-playing, I will assume his own accessories (namely his sunglasses, watch and hoop earrings) are the source of his immunity to those status ailments and to the Gravity-related spells.
As Rude rarely take off his gloves, bracelet and accessories, unless exceptional circumstance he should have access to those abilities and immunities most of the time.
